About 31 people were feared dead and about 100 injured on Tuesday, following a mass stampede that ensued after a walkway collapsed in the Iraqi city of Karbala Aljazeera reports.
The incident took place during Ashoura commemoration as thousands of Shia Muslims converge on the city, about 80km south of Baghdad, to mark one of the solemn holy days of the year.

During a procession, a part of a walkway collapsed which caused the deadly panic among the worshippers that resulted to the deadliest stampede in recent history of during Ashoura commemorations.
Officials said, no fewer than 31 lives were lost and about 100 injured, At least 10 among the wounded pilgrims. Death toll is expected to rise. The Health Ministry said.
The religious occasion was also marked with rallies, prayers and self-flagellation in India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Lebanon.
